Lyde Green Primary

Surveyor Class Year 3

This Autumn, our Topic is ‘Bright Sparks  - How does electricity work?’

During this unit, we will be exploring what electricity is, where it comes from and how it is used. We will be carrying out investigations to help us answer our scientific questions about how electricity is conducted and how circuits are constructed. We will also be exploring magnetism. We will also be looking at life before electricity and how that affected the way people lived in the past.

In RE we will be focusing on the Christian creation story and we will be comparing this to creation stories from other faiths.

Once we have successfully explored electricity and magnetism we will graduate as ‘Bright Sparks’.

Our Maths learning focus

We will be learning to develop our knowledge and understanding of place value and methods for addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers. We will be applying the skills we learn to reasoning and problem solving questions.

Our English learning focus

This term, we will be exploring our class novel ‘The Hodgeheg’ by Dick King Smith and we will be developing our own story writing skills. We will also be learning to re-tell stories, understand how to use fronted adverbials and learn how to use an/a correctly in our writing.  We will be focusing on how to build detail and atmosphere into our work. By the end of the unit, we will have written an adventure story.
