Our Vision and Values

Our School vision and ethos

We strive to inspire, ignite and arouse a passion for lifelong learning at Lyde Green. Our staff model themselves as lifelong learners, demonstrating the reward in being the best you can be; showing the value in acquiring new knowledge, skills and understanding.

We aspire to deliver engaging lessons that challenge, motivate and enthuse our young learners. We ensure that our environment promotes learning, using the building and its grounds to deliver a truly broad and balanced curriculum that reflects our school values.

High quality, positive feedback enables pupils to realise their individual potential. We believe the whole school community has a responsibility to promote and model a consistently positive attitude to learning and to every individual within our school.

In order to achieve this we:

Our School Values

Respect, Courage, Tolerance, Collaboration, Resilience and Kindness

Our values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be confident, happy citizens. We all strive to be better and believe collaboration with parents, between teachers, with other schools and our learners means we are always the best that we can be.

A core value is a central belief clearly understood and shared by every member of the school community.

Our Values are addressed directly through lessons, assemblies and across the whole curriculum. We learn to understand what each value looks like in day to day life and how we can demonstrate that value, in the way we behave, in our attitude towards each other and in our learning.

Lyde Green Values and British Values

The Department for Education have recently reinforced the need  ‘to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.’

At Lyde Green Primary School, we reinforce these values regularly by linking them to our school values.

Democracy is promoted through our election of School Pupil Council representatives from each class. We also intend to encourage pupil voice through Class Forums and include School Pupil Council members in interviewing new members of staff.

The importance of Laws, in everyday life and in everyday school life is always promoted.  Rules and laws are generally there to keep us safe and whether they govern the class, the school, or the country, this concept is reinforced during the school days.

Individual Liberty is taught through the promotion of independence, individual responsibility as well as e-safety and personal, social, health education lessons. Pupils are actively encouraged to think about the choices they make in their learning as well as the choices they make outside of school in life.

Mutual Respect is a core value. Our children understand that respect needs to be both earned and given and it is an important part of our school ethos and behaviour policy.  Monday "Values" assemblies focus on what respect means in the context of school life and how this fits with  our other values.

Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs is achieved through enhancing pupils' understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity.

Lyde Green school rules

At Lyde Green we understand that rules are important and necessary to keep us safe and happy. Our school rules reflect our values. They are:

Here at Lyde Green we have introduced the idea of FISH philosophy. FISH philosophy is a powerful tool that helps you to love what you do. We believe that how we respond to the challenges we face everyday is often down to us! The idea started in Seattle, USA, when a group of workers  decided to make their dreary lives at a local Fish market more exciting.  We have based our school rules around this philosophy as well as our own values and all members of the Lyde Green school community, adults and children , are encouraged to live life according to these ideas.
