Jupiter Class - Year 3

Our themed  learning this half term asks the question 'Are Bugs Important?’

During this unit, we will be exploring living things. We will be investigating the habitats of insects and finding out what insects and plants need to survive. We will also be looking at food chains and the life cycle of butterflies. In computing lessons, we will be using learn pads to take photographs of different living things and then we will learn how to edit these photos. We will then be learning to sketch insects and plants that we have photographed.

In PE, we will be lucky enough to have a sports coach on a Thursday mornings where we will be focusing on athletics.

 Our Maths learning focus

At the beginning of the term, we will be focusing on fractions.  We will be learning to add and subtract fractions, find fractions of shapes , objects and numbers, compare fractions and count in tenths. Towards the end of next term, we will be focusing on learning to tell the time.

Our English learning focus

This term, we will be exploring our class book ‘The King of Tiny Things’ by Jeanne Willis. We will learn to re-tell this story and write character and setting descriptions before planning and writing our own fantasy stories.

We will then write an instructional text on how to create a bug house for own chosen insects.

We will continue to build upon our grammar, spelling and punctuation skills by developing the use of apostrophes for possession and by learning to use a range of prefixes and suffixes.
